Trey – Model Sheet

April 26, 2011 Leave a comment

Hey there fellow Holmesians.

Got this fantastic contribution from Daniel to share with one and all!  A new model sheet for Trey!

While I was on the Holmesinc site looking for Trey references, I noticed there’s only one turn-around of her from last year.  I needed something a little more than just what was there, so I did up my own model sheet.  Perhaps it’ll be useful to others who will be drawing her as well?

Fantastic reference, Daniel! – Pinc!

Safe! – Final Final Character Turnarounds

April 19, 2011 Leave a comment

Hello, fellow Holmes Inc.ers!

Rae Wells is an unstoppable force of drawing! check her revised turnarounds for Elizabeth’s big Daddy Jack Wason and his boots and Malachai, the man destined to die by Elizabeth’s hand.

Here’s what Rae was thinking.

I’ve done the requested tweak on Jack Watson’s boots. “I’m wearing army boots with my suit. FTW.

and I nudged Malachi’s design a little more. I’ve made him just a little bow-legged, and instead of the polo shirt I’m going with a muscle shirt that doesn’t work as well for him as he thinks it does.

I have one word for these.

Sweeeeeet!

Ty had several words…

Man, these designs get better every time.  Can’t wait to see some constructed pages.

And that, as they say, is that! – Pinc

Poker Face Designs – With Notes!

April 18, 2011 1 comment

The game is again afoot, fellow Holmesians. But it is the hands of an artist that give us our next exhibit for you edification and commentary.

I give you… Marshall Geddes masterful, final designs for Rain’s 5 page opus, “Poker Face”.

Definitely worth the wait.

Ty thoughts on the Casino/Poker Room.

The poker room is good, but it needs more tables around the poker table,  It’s supposed to be a ship-board casino, if I recall, where they might be a craps table and a roulette wheel nearby.  The room should have a sense of a few more people than are just gathered around the one table.  EVERYTHING in the background is terrific, but Rain, if you could add the other tables in the background, as you draw, which I assume you’d be doing anyway.

Ty the Guy

Next up, we have the designs for a villain so repugnant he gets under Trey’s skin. But is he all bluff?  Not with designs like these! Ty and I have already signed off on Poker Face’s design in class. So all we have to do know is enjoy these fine drawerins!

Finally, we have the “so tough he can kick your ass in earrings and a dress” bruiser, Equi-T! Here is Marshall’s first pass on his turnaround.

Everyone liked the Mr. T in a dress aspect of the character. But we felt it was stronger to make the character less of of a gender question mark and more definitely male.  So Marshall came back with the winning design below!

Ty and noth flipped over the final rotations for Equi-T so this tale is off and running!

And now I shall run and get something else posted ASAP!  – Pinc

Safe! – Young Elizabeth and Jack Watson Turnarounds

April 14, 2011 3 comments

Hey all.

Just wanted to share Rae’s terrific turnarounds for the nine-year old Elizabeth and her tough daddy, Jack Watson.

Last week at the meeting we all agreed the USAF t-short was more Elizabeth than Captain Planet (and a lot less dicey for rights clearances and all that).

And now for that tough bastard, Jack Watson!

Lovely work, Rae. Full of the kind of detail that makes for memorable characters!

Cheers!   -Pinc!

Old Wounds – Maury Turnaround

April 13, 2011 Leave a comment

Oh yeah!  Things are getting tasty!

Here are the awesome designs for Mike Marano and Grant Howarth’s vile villain, the cyber-enhanced Maury!

I am loving the soul patch and all around douche-baggery look of Maury. Complete with two of those rings in the ears that stretch the lobes! A nice, subtle touch that Maury has a hipster life outside of work, or wishes he did!

And here, in all his badassery – is the transformed Maury!!

Grant also offered a lovely rough of the organic computer lab.

Sadly, Grant suffered some computer issues and lost what he had whipped up in his design  program but we will share more as it comes!

Wild West Tales of The Elizabeth Kid and Pappy Jack

April 7, 2011 1 comment

First and foremost, if you’re seeing images, I’ve figured out one way around my computer’s loco relationship with this here website, and I’ve plumb switched over with the computer machine belongin’ to muh missus.

Enough tomfoolery, let’s start with the turnarounds of young Elizabeth, age nine.  That first shot of her wearing the USAF t-shirt is precious to me.  The only descendant of both Holmes AND Watson is a little girl in a pro-American costume –  it’s completely right.

Now for Jack’s cool style.  I must say, I love Aaron’s call about the slouch hat, and Rachel’s depiction of it.  I already know tons of stuff about this guy from a great design, and one page of dialog.  I want to see spin-off stories with Jack in the next issue.  Perhaps following a lead suggested by one of Mike’s famous tossaway titles.

One tiny note, now that I’m down here:  Add a hint of character to the footwear.  Laces, stitching, or even a minor heel.  A man’s choice of shoe is an equally telling detail as a well angled hat.

Ryan – Trey’s Watson

Hey all,

Sorry for the repeat post, gang. I just wanted to make sure we had just the Ryan turnaround for the character and turn around listings so we wouldn’t be mixing designs. I have also included Ty’s comments on Rachael’s work. – Rob

Ty wrote: “Speaking of common characters, Rachel Wells has offered us a turnaround on the last of the continuing cast from last ish, that DIDN’T get a design pack.  Ryan was only in Eden’s story, so he never got a full turn for the group to reference…and Rae has supplied it!

I think Christopher Yao is doing the story that includes Ryan this time out, and he’s jumped ahead in his story bible by having this handy.”
